A Legacy Woven Through Time

Sarita Handa was born a year before Partition. She lived through wars, liberalisation, globalisation, and the constant churn of the social and economic moment and across these eras, one fascination never left her: traditional textiles and craftsmanship.

In 1992, with her army husband's retirement savings all of 10 lakh she set up Sarita Handa Exports Pvt. Ltd. Working initially with just ten artisans, she introduced the world to handmade patchwork quilts a product that was, at the time, largely unfamiliar to Western consumers accustomed to polka dots, stripes, and floral or animal prints.

The Principles That

Shaped Her Journey

For her, the foundation of any lasting house is its people and the relationships it builds. Some of our client relationships go back over 30 years. To her, these relationships are built on trust, consistency and commitment, and are as important to the journey as the products themselves.

She believes in making in India, using Indian traditional techniques, for a global audience. What began with training women in hand quilting in Rudrapur evolved into a long term craft ecosystem. Today more than 15000 women continue to be part of the network. She believes in keeping these skills alive, creating livelihoods and taking the richness of Indian craftsmanship to the world, while staying rooted in where it comes from.
